South Africa is the most abundantly blessed country in the entire world when it comes to
bush locations. The South African National Parks Board (or SANParks as it is known today) is the guardian of 21 National Parks (in seven of the nine provinces) in South Africa that stretch from the far northern borders of our wonderfully diverse country right down to the southern most coastal regions. We even have two transfrontier parks - one that is shared with Botswana and one that is shared with Namibia. In addition to these parks we have the staggering number of 137 Provincial nature or game reserves! Our National Parks alone cover an area of 3 546 362 hectares, with Kruger National Park being the largest of all our National Parks at 1 962 362 hectares. Added to all our National and Provincial Parks there are a great many privately owned parks and concessions. Being spoiled for choice as we are in this country, every single interest can be catered for. Avid ornithologists, crazy herpetologists, creepy entomologists, botanists, biologists, mammalogists, zoologists, ontologists, ecologists and ordinary people like you and me have a wide choice of places to visit! The wonderful thing about having such a huge variety of bush destinations to choose from, is that we are able to visit these places year round. So when one part of the country is too hot at a certain time of the year, we will certainly be able to find another one where the temperature is moderate at the same time of the year.
