Port Elizabeth is well known for its sunshine and safe sandy beaches. The city is the second largest city (area) and the fifth largest city (population) in South Africa with a population of 1.1 million inhabitants. Port Elizabeth is a very popular tourist destination and is also an important centre for the South African motor industry. The historical attractions in this area pertain mainly to the 1820 English Settlers. One of the features of Port Elizabeth that makes it stand out from other South African cities is that the visitor can enjoy a combined beach & bush holiday, as there are a number of Wildlife reserves within easy driving distance of Port Elizabeth. In some of these reserves the visitor can enjoy The Big Five without having to worry about malaria, as this is a Malaria Free stretch of South Africa. Port Elizabeth has a great deal to recommend it, but perhaps its greatest treasures are the beautiful beaches and warm waters of the Indian Ocean, which makes it an idyllic location for water sports.
